sunshine rainy day stripes

Trust Melbourne. Thunder storms this morning, clearing to intermittent, blazing sunshine followed by, you guessed it.. More RAIN!
In that tiny interval between showers this morning I managed to take some (wind-swept) pictures of my latest DIY.
Found this cool jersey fabric at Darn Cheap Fabrics in Ivanhoe, it's not actually knitted into stripes, each section is overlocked together and it comes out kind of wonky instead of straight lines. Very strange, but I love it! (Plus it was a bargain at about $6 a metre).
Couldn't think of what to do with it for ages, but settled on a similar shape to my Asuza dress as seen HERE changing it a bit, going sleeveless with a raised front hem that sweeps low at the back.

Wearing with Asos boots, Georg Jensen pendant and bracelet, and 'Grain Waves' necklace from Vietnam.

superhappyfun shorts

I don't mean to toot my own horn here, but these could possibly be the best shorts ever! There is no way you can be unhappy in them for a second!
Another DIY project, I copied a pair of Target boxer shorts I found in the back of my wardrobe to make my own pattern. Found this wonderful floral fabric lying around and BAM! BEST SHORTS EVER!
Ok, ok that's enough self promotion for now..

Wearing with Hi by Henry Holland tank, Verali wedges, random necklace, jade bangle and turquoise bangle and ring from Vietnam.

dip dyed sunset

Another day, another DIY. I made this slip ages ago and have never worn it so I thought I would do something to jazz it up. Dip dyed the entire dress in blue and the hem in red dye for a purple sunset-ish effect. Not a very subtle gradation I know, but I think it looks pretty cool non-the-less.
I used these powder dyes for silk, cotton and rayon fabrics (pictured) which only set in the fabric when used alongside soda ash and rock salt (which I had run out of, using table salt instead).
I think this will be the perfect beach party dress, just as long as I don't blend in with the sunset!

Worn with: Henry Holland x Le Specs glasses, Verali wedges, breast plate from Vietnam and thrifted bangle

LBT x 2

I've been seriously bored lately so decided to do something productive yesterday and make these two little black tops. I've had the georgette lying around for centuries now and finally found a use for it!
First I made the plain singlet in a trapeze style and then wanted to do something a little more interesting so I made an exact replica again, spliced it in half and sewed a sheer chiffon panel down the front and back. Voila! I was about to cut off the excess fabric on the panel when I realised it was slightly Dion Lee Line II-esque so I left the dangly, loin-cloth bits alone. I'm really happy with the results and can't wait to give these a workout this summer!

HCMC treasures

Thought I would photograph some of the jewellery I brought back from Vietnam recently. Got a little carried away with the mirroring effect as you can see. My favourite piece would have to be the breast plate in the first picture, it's so simple yet can pull an outfit from drab.. to FAB instantly (sorry so cheesy!!). I've never been a big fan of statement jewellery, but Vietnam converted me.
All of the jewellery was from Ho Chi Minh City, some of it came from this cute little store in Vincom shopping centre called Miss Ni (not sure if that's the correct spelling) and some of it from the Ben Thanh markets where there was one tiny stall each for the gold and silver. Desperately wanting to go back to find some more treasure!

Oaks

Went to Oaks Day at Flemington as part of the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival last Thursday.
Started with a champagne breakfast, more champagne for lunch and ended with a shoe swap with my best friend (we both wore the same shoe, mine are the blue and hers are the red).
Absolutely exhausting day, but so much fun. Also won a bit of money while I was at it!
